We chose James Mcavoy to play the detective as he played a police officer in other films such as Welcome To The Punch. He also played a detective in Filth, even if the character he played was completely lot of it most of the time. I think that working int here films gave him a foundation on what a detective/police officer should act like.
After watching his interview for Filth I think that the way he presents himself as a mentally ill person could help his role in our film because the killer starts plain with his mind and this person could slowly start seeping out throughout the film, until he finds him. I think that James Mcavoy is probably the best person to have play the detective.
