title sequence analysis (kiss kiss bang bang)

I analysed the title sequence for “Kiss Kiss Bang Bang”. Danny Yount created this title sequence influenced by Saul Bass, and the way he uses silhouettes in his work.

The music starts within the first second, shortly followed by with ‘Warner Bros. Pictures presents’. "Warner Bro's' appears first, and being the only thing on the screen, this shows its importance and that this is one of the main production companies, and plays the biggest part in making the film. The white on black makes the words stand out and the bold font helps too.

‘A Silver Pictures production’ appears on screen at 0.04 seconds, this shows that this is also quite important in the film as it is the second company shown. The colour block scenery draws some of the attention away from the company, showing that it is not as important as the pervious.

This transitions to a man jumping over a fence, which may connote that he is on the run as the fence looks like it belongs to a prison. As the man lands the words ‘Robert Downey JR.’ appears at 0.09 seconds. This may be the character he is playing as they are quite synchronised.  The red writing on the neutral background makes the actors name stand out showing us his importance. At 0.11 seconds a pair of eyes appear and follow the man off the screen, shortly followed at 0.13 ‘Val Kilmer’.  This name also is presented in the red/neutral contrast showing there maybe a link between the two characters. The following eyes may connote that he is being watched, and that he is a criminal throughout the film.

The name of the title appears throughout 4 second period. This makes the audience focus on the title because the audience visualise this and recognise it as its the newest things on the page, so the audience will naturally focus their gaze upon it.
